The Stablehand

Historic gastro pub with a British-sourced menu, welcoming pups in Tyburnia.

The Stablehand is a gastro pub at 4 Bathurst Street in Tyburnia, close to Hyde Park. The pub was built in 1839 on an old archery range, and its website says it became a neighbourhood meeting spot for residents, frequented by locals from Winston Churchill to Tony Blair.

The kitchen takes a British line: it aims to be London's only gastro pub sourcing all of its ingredients from the British Isles, with exceptions such as lemons from Gibraltar. Dishes include steak, fish pie and sticky toffee pudding, and a roast dinner is served every Sunday. The wine list leans on English and Welsh vineyards, and the bar offers classic cocktails, Scottish whiskies and Cotswolds gin. Wood panelling and velvet furnishings set the interior.

The pub says dogs are welcome if kept on a lead. Paws of London has recorded outdoor seating. The nearest stations are Lancaster Gate, a 2 minute walk, and Paddington, about 3 minutes away.
