Brutto

Brutto is a casual neighbourhood trattoria at 35-37 Greenhill Rents in Clerkenwell, serving classic Florentine dishes. Its website describes the philosophy as simplicity and quality, authenticity and big flavours, with a bar for a glass of wine or a Negroni and a cosy restaurant.

Like many trattorias in Florence, it does not serve fish, though there are some vegetarian and vegan options. Its dry-aged T-bone steaks come from Longcroft & Old in Smithfield Market, are chalked up on a blackboard each day, and sometimes sell out. Tables are booked through OpenTable for up to six guests, groups are not split across tables, and there is no private hire.

The website says dogs are welcome: a bowl of water is always available, with healthy treats and doggy bags, and the restaurant has a house bulldog named Bailey. The nearest stations are Farringdon (2 minutes on foot), Barbican (4 minutes) and City Thameslink (8 minutes).
