The Pig and Butcher

The Pig and Butcher is a restaurant in a pub building at 80 Liverpool Road in Islington. Its website says the pub was built in the mid 1800s, when Islington was a village outside London and the surrounding land was used by farmers to rest livestock before sale at Smithfield.

The kitchen takes its inspiration from farmhouse tables across Europe and runs a daily changing menu. Meat is butchered on site every day in a butchers room downstairs, and the team collects fruit and vegetables from New Spitalfields Market and meat from Smithfield Market. The wine list changes regularly and features family-owned vineyards as well as larger winemakers, and there is a selection of beers. Sunday roasts are on the menu. A private dining room on the first floor has a wood burning stove and an Aga oven, and seats up to 24 guests.

Paws of London lists it as dog-friendly after an editorial check; the dog-policy card below shows where that comes from and when it was last checked. The nearest stations are Angel (6 minutes on foot), Essex Road (10) and Caledonian Road and Barnsbury (11).
