William IV

William IV is an independent pub at 7 Shepherdess Walk in Hoxton, a short walk from Old Street. Its website says the pub was originally built in the 1830s, was saved from redevelopment, restored and re-opened in 2023.

Downstairs is the pub itself, where the owners say they pour Augustiner Hells on draught. Upstairs is a dining room with a more extensive menu built on British produce. The kitchen says it uses rare breed meat from Swaledale butchers, fish from Flying Fish and Wright Brothers filleted on site from Brixham day boat catches, and sourdough and burger buns from St John Bakery. The pub also serves a Sunday roast.

The two owners describe the pub as fully independent and self-funded, and say they ran pubs for Barworks before opening it.

Old Street station is about 8 minutes on foot, with Angel around 12 minutes and Essex Road around 15. Paws of London lists it as dog-friendly after an editorial check; the dog-policy card below shows where that comes from and when it was last checked.
