The Dog And Duck

The Dog and Duck is a Nicholson's pub at 18 Bateman Street in Soho, Westminster. It occupies a Grade II listed building, and the pub's own history says the original pub was built in 1734 on the site of the Duke of Monmouth's home, with the present building going up in 1897 to a design by the architect Francis Cannon.

Inside, the pub points to thousands of glazed tiles, mahogany panelling and decorative mirrors, and says the interior is considered one of the most exquisite of its period in London. The website lists John Constable, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and George Orwell among its past visitors.

The menu centres on British pub classics and hand-crafted pies served under pastry or mash, alongside cask ales, wine, and whisky and gin collections. Tables can be booked, or guests can walk in and take a seat, and ordering from the table is available.

The nearest stations are Tottenham Court Road (3 minutes' walk), Leicester Square (5) and Piccadilly Circus (6). Paws of London lists it as dog-friendly after an editorial check; the dog-policy card below shows where that comes from and when it was last checked.
