The Gate

The Gate is a family-run pub and restaurant on Barnet Road in Arkley. The owners say they took on The Gate in 1999, and that they love great food and take pride in producing good, hearty meals.

The pub has never taken bookings of any kind, and says the reason is that it wants everyone to be able to visit. When it is busy, a host allocates tables as they become available, which can mean a small wait. On Sundays and bank holidays it serves roast dinners in addition to its full menu, with the roasts of the day on chalk boards in the pub.

A separate kids menu lists a homemade quarter pounder with chips and coleslaw, penne pasta with homemade tomato and basil sauce, Prime Cumberland pork sausages with mash and gravy, home-cooked pork spare ribs in BBQ sauce, and breaded whole cod fish fingers with chips and baked beans.

Paws of London lists it as dog-friendly after an editorial check; the dog-policy card below shows where that comes from and when it was last checked.
