The Garden Gate

Iconic Hampstead pub with a stunning beer garden, perfect for pups.

The Garden Gate is a pub at 14 South End Road in Hampstead, Camden, close to Hampstead Heath. The website describes it as an iconic London pub and says it "allegedly" offers the best al-fresco fun in North London, with one of the finest beer gardens in the capital. Those are the pub's own claims, not ours.

The kitchen serves home-cooked food for lunch, Sunday roast, family dinner or brunch, and the pub says its menu runs from snacks and sharers to chicken dishes, meat-free options and classic pub dishes, prepared by a Head Chef and kitchen team. A Sunday set menu offers two courses of roasts and seasonal dishes, with giant Yorkshire puddings among the trimmings. There is also a drinks menu described as diverse and explorative, and tables can be reserved online.

Outdoor seating and an enclosed garden are recorded for the pub. Hampstead Heath station is a one minute walk, with Belsize Park six minutes away and Hampstead eleven. Paws of London lists it as dog-friendly after an editorial check; the dog-policy card below shows where that comes from and when it was last checked.
